June is here which means Summer has officially arrived. With the beautiful sunshine comes scorching heat which has us craving icy cold beverages. When it’s 80 degrees at 8 o’clock in the morning, drinking a hot cup of coffee is not ideal. The solution? Iced Coffee! How do you make iced coffee? Read on for the details!
It is a common misconception that iced coffee is simply leftover coffee poured over ice. This technique waters down the flavor as the ice melts. Not only is the flavor diluted, you also won’t get the caffeine kick you’re brain is craving. Coffee experts agree that the best way to make iced coffee is by cold brew. Some recipes can get complicated and there is definitely an expansive and expensive market for iced coffee machinery, however, there is an easier way. What you’ll need
- French press
- Coffee grounds of your choice
- Room temperature water
- 24oz Tumbler
- Cream / Sugar (optional)
The strength of the coffee depends on the water-grounds ratio. If you prefer a lighter roast the suggested ratio is 1:16 . For a more robust flavor experts recommend 1:4. If you enjoy a glass of bold iced coffee you should use the 1:2 ratio.
If you don’t have a French Press almost any other container will work. You’ll just have to get creative when it comes time to strain your brew. French presses are designed for this exact function so if you have one use it!
Depending on your unique flavor palate add as much cream and sugar as you would to a hot cup of coffee.
