Cupture Changes Lives with Water.org

Cupture is proud to announce a new partnership with water.org, a global organization that provides innovative, community-led and market-based solutions that change lives through safe water and sanitation. The alliance will help empower women and children across the globe to obtain safe water and sanitation solutions, accelerating positive change in their homes and communities. This will be achieved through Water.org program, WaterCredit, which enables people in need to access small loans for water connections and toilets.

According to Water.org, water-related illness worldwide, such as diarrhea, is among the leading causes of death in children under five years old, listed with deadly diseases such as malaria. Moreover, per the World Health Organization, every dollar invested in water and sanitation generates approximately a $4 economic return. The World Economic Forum, in its 2015 Global Risk Assessment, ranked water crises as the number one global risk in terms of impact on people’s health and quality of life.

Collecting scarce water in impoverished communities is usually the job of women and girls, often taking hours each day. Similar initiatives have shown that with the availability of clean, safe water, their lives can be transformed: Women have significantly more time to pursue paid work, and girls have more time to attend school. Women constitute 93 percent of WaterCredit borrowers globally.

For every Travel Tumbler sold, Cupture will donate one dollar to Water.org in efforts to expand their water credit programs.

That means for every Travel Tumbler unit sold, Cupture will have helped provide clean water to one family for 8 months. That is a significant impact we are excited to make. “We are pleased to partner with Water.org to help provide clean and safe water to people who desperately need it,” says Lily Kuo, President of Cupture. “It is an amazing opportunity to really help improve environmental and global health, and create educational and economic opportunities for women and girls.”

About WaterCredit

WaterCredit is an initiative of Water.org that puts microfinance tools to use in the water and sanitation sector. It is the first comprehensive program of its kind in the world that connects the microfinance, water and sanitation communities to scale up access to credit and capital for individual- and household-based water and sanitation needs across multiple countries. In turn, the WaterCredit partnership model and financing mechanisms serve to channel and redeploy financial resources more efficiently and effectively to enable increasing numbers of people to meet their drinking water and sanitation needs.
